Christmas Brunch came off without a hitch.  I took some "before" pics:

The final menu consisted of sugar caned ham with apples and pears, shrimp and grits, andouille sausage, white cheddar eggs with scallions and parsley over potato pancakes, and good southern biscuits.  Later we had Brie with hot pepper jelly and caviar.  Lots of mimosas (4 bottles of champagne), spiked eggnog, and Christmas cookies were consumed too.

It was quite successful and everyone had a good time - or it seemed as if they had a good time.

I did - but then 4 bottles of champagne virtually ensures a good time, doesn't it?

The 'rents came through this year.  They sent me a Sandisk Sansa 200ER 6 GB MP3.  Oh my God I love this thing.  It does everything except dishes.  It plays movies, music, has a voice recorder and expandable memory. 

It is really scary that my father picked this present out for me.  He has never been one to pick out presents or one for technology.  I called to thank him and he went on and on about how he is "ripping CD's" and creating playlists.  He also went into detail about how it uses a flash drive instead of a hard drive so there is no skipping whilst jogging.  Then he provided details on accessories, specs, etc. and told me to call him if I had any problems figuring it out.

WHAT?  This from the man who used to have to call me to help him open Windows or shut down his computer?  Am I in the twilight zone? 

I spent several hours yesterday uploading my music and searching Rhapsody.  I absolutely love Rhapsody.  It, of course, automatically imported all of my Itunes and other music files and then made suggestions based on the music I already had on my computer.  Rhapsody told me that I am a Punk.  I didn't know and now feel quite justified in dying my hair hot pink and piercing my face and other nibbley bits.  And I get to wear black and pull my Doc Martins out of the closet.  Finally, someone - or something - "gets" me!

I went to a "formal" company party for a client last night.  The client is a large franchised bar that employs many young and attractive, albeit undereducated, but very enthusiastic people.  All in all, it was a fun and entertaining evening.

I arrived early, at 10:45 pm.  The DJ was already spinning and mixing.  He was very talented.  I met the manager and then the owner immediately upon my arrival.  Had a nice chat and the owner introduced me to a few people and handed me a lovely glass of red wine that mixed well with the Listerine I had gargled ten minutes earlier.  Yeah, I learned that if one has just had Listerine, one simply MUST drink vodka before wine.  Once time enough for the medicinal qualities to dissipate had elapsed, I enjoyed my glass of wine and had another.

Most of the revelers began arriving at about 11:30.  The wildlife was out in full form. It made for a nice evening of people watching.  I wish I had taken my camera along.

Many of the women were obviously confused about what to wear to a "formal" party as they arrived in dresses so short one could catch glimpses of their goodies, even while the scantily dressed party-goer was standing fully erect.  One woman's "skirt," (well really, I think it was more of a belt) was so short that it didn't cover her buttocks fully.  Another's dress was cut into so sharp a "V" in the front that when she moved, the dress hem teased her well-shaven, unclad pussy.  Yes, I am sure that it was both shaven and unclad as I had several occasions to see it first hand.  In fact, I had more crotch shots last night than a homebound  computer geek gets on his screen during a whole Saturday evening. 

My favorite outfit of the event was a 1970's-esque stretchy knit jumpsuit with wide leg pants.  Oh my, oh my.  Although, admittedly this outfit would be all but impossible for even Kate Moss to pull off, the woman wearing it DEFINITELY DID NOT know how to "work it."  After about 3 minutes of dancing and shaking her groove thang, she had put a five inch rip right up the rear seam.  Thank heavens she had no idea or she would have been more embarrassed than she should have already been.  Poor dear.  Or maybe she put it there on purpose to allow for quick access on the dance floor.  Maybe her gyrating wasn't, in fact, dancing? 

In any case, I don't think these young'uns can afford mirrors.  I really must talk to my client about raising their salaries.

OH!  And I saw Sammy Davis, Jr.!!!!!  

I KNOW, I thought he was dead too.  But, apparently, he is alive and well and living here.  I am happy to report that he is still an excellent dancer and snappy dresser. 

By the way, what is it that black mommas are teaching their boys?  How is it that so many black men know how to dress; I mean, really KNOW how to pull together an outfit and make it work?  'Cause I have to tell you that white mommas are not teaching the same lessons to their boys.  The contrast was remarkable.  While the typical black male attendee wore a sharp suit and tie with polished shoes, the white men wore untucked shirts and jeans.  SERIOUSLY!!!  

One white boy clearly wanted to dress well for the occasion, but was at a total loss as to what to do.  So, he opted for the classic white boy choice - comedy.  Why is it that when a white boy doesn't know what to wear, he immediately thinks crazy patterned vintage  is the solution?  In this case, it was an early 1980's madras plaid blazer that hit mid thigh and a matching bow tie.  *sigh*

Anyway, made it home at 2:00.  I felt too old, too sophisticated, and too sober to understand all I had just witnessed.

Took the morning off - I ain't no superman.

It seems that I might be...and I am not confessing to this yet....but I might indeed be, getting old.

YIKES.

Went to a little office party last night, left early with the intention of getting dressed up and meeting some friends downtown for a little bit of drinking, dancing, and carousing.  I went home to take care of the dog and change my clothes.  Took care of the dog...and woke up at 10:00 this morning.  I remember vaguely getting a call at 1:00 am from Sug.  I was too asleep to talk with him let alone entertain him.  I do remember that he sounded disappointed in me.  He is over a decade younger than I am and doesn't understand my failure to keep up.  To be fair, he is still in college and doesn't have my work schedule either.

Oh My God!  I feel like such a feeble wuss.

Today's plans include, getting out of bed, going to the gym, finishing my Christmas decorating, Christmas shopping (which I hate to do), shopping for something to wear to a formal party on Monday,grocery shopping, and watching football.  If I have the energy tonight - I will dance.  If not, I will accept that I am a great disappointment to my immaginary disco-cokehead father and techno-raving mother and that I am indeed getting old. I will then bake some gingerbread and put on some fuzzy slippers.

And by the way, does anyone know how to light the pilot light on a gas fireplace without blowing themselves up?  It is way too warm for a fire now, but I think it would be nice to light (i.e. flip the switch) it on Christmas.

UPDATE:  Gingerbread it is...I just awoke from a 3 hour nap.  Think I was exhausted?  Think I ran myself ragged without even realizing it?   I may be even too tired to bake.  *gulp*
